Old Havana Dim Sum is a fusion restaurant that blends the rich culinary traditions of Cuba and China, with a focus on dim sum. Located in Cincinnati, Ohio, the restaurant offers a warm and inviting atmosphere that celebrates life’s journey through food, culture, and design.
Our role was to develop a cohesive brand identity that authentically reflects the restaurant’s unique concept. From exterior presence to the dining experience, every detail was crafted to immerse guests in a seamless fusion of both cultures. The design incorporates architectural elements such as Cuban-inspired arches and traditional tile patterns, reinforcing the cultural narrative. The bar embraces Cuba’s vibrant cocktail culture while also featuring a curated selection of teas, honoring the Chinese teahouse tradition where dim sum originated.
The story behind Old Havana Dim Sum is deeply personal. It draws inspiration from my grandfather’s journey to America as a child during Operation Pedro Pan in the 1960s, a mission that helped thousands of Cuban children escape. The restaurant’s concept also acknowledges the wave of Chinese immigrants who fled Cuba during the same period, weaving together the histories of two cultures in a shared culinary experience.
