ECHO: Unspoken and Retold is a community-driven studio project aimed at giving a space for the voices in the Anderson community to be heard. A place where every story and voice matters. Giving light to the diverse narratives that make up those located in Anderson, South Carolina.
After deep diving into research about the local residents, Anderson University's Design for Social Value class (Studio 329) identified a key issue within the city's community. It was found that there is a separation between the narratives of individuals, leading to further divisions within the Anderson community. As a team, Studio 329, took on the challenge to bring back unity and work on building that connection back. To give a place for all voices to be heard.
The studio's goal was to showcase and give this space through a final exhibition. To first get to that step, a collection of handwritten stories from various locations was needed. With those stories, we were able to showcase the narratives of many different individuals in the hopes that we can work towards changing the community for the better.
As a studio, we believe everyone holds value and every voice is significant. Through ECHO, we worked to bring light to the darkness and ask questions that can be responded with both good, bad, hard, or easy.
