The Re-Crate team's ultimate objective was to engage in a cohesive team effort, pooling our collective strengths to create a chair that serves as a tangible manifestation of our synthesized design philosophy.
Employing PVC pipes, a Coca-Cola plastic crate, and repurposed plastic bags, team Re-Crate designed and constructed a chair that can be re-created by anyone. Our guiding principle, encapsulated in our philosophy statement is, "To create a chair using readily available and repurposed materials, promoting resourcefulness and reducing waste. Our goal is to challenge the consumerist culture by demonstrating the functional and aesthetically pleasing items that can be created from everyday items rather than buying new furniture."
With the belief that anyone could make the chair using basic materials. The team chose to develop an instructional guide. This guide illustrates, from beginning to end, how individuals can construct the Re-Crate themselves.
The chair was displayed in the exhibition called SUBTLE: An Exploration of Presence and Purpose."
